Sponsors and their Responsibilities

Sponsors are people in the United States who are acting as supporters for Ukrainians seeking refuge in the United States, and who agree to provide the newly arrived Ukrainians with financial support for the duration of their stay in the United States.

The sponsors themselves are vetted by the U.S. government to ensure that sponsors are able to support the arrivals financially, and to verify that the situation is safe for the arrivals.

Sponsors are financially responsible for the people they are supporting, but they are also expected to help the new arrivals establish themselves in the United States. This may involve finding housing, applying for federal benefits if desired, connecting to health care, enrolling in English as a second language classes if necessary, enrolling in school if applicable, and seeking employment.
